I received a call earlier in the week from EECA after the chief executive spotted the recent press about Energy Architecture NZ Ltd in Capital Magazine. We discussed the Warm Up New Zealand insulation programme at length as well as our joint aspirations for the future of New Zealand’s housing. Mike Underhill and Christian Hoerning suggest that a local PassivHaus project would work wonders for encouraging wider support for the standard due to the possibility of site visits by representatives of the various Wellington-based government agencies (Something Energy Architecture NZ ltd is working towards).
Robert Linterman mentioned a new programme by Hastings District Council. Best Home is a new initiative where by higher rating Homestar projects get access to a speedier consent process. It’s certainly a promising development for encouraging wider adoption of sustainability standards in new construction. (I’ll be looking at Homestar in more detail in a later post).
All in all, it was a very encouraging meeting and I’m looking forward to future developments. Watch this space.
