The Greens announced an exciting new policy yesterday; they are proposing to establish a Green Investment Bank to:
‘fund new projects ranging from renewable energy and biofuel production to new clean technologies’.
Energy efficiency retrofits are also mentioned.
Hopefully the policy details will closely mirror the hugely successful KfW Development Bank in Germany. Their retrofits funding program has been in effect for over a decade (we have covered the main points of the program here).
I look forward to seeing this policy, or something like it, come into force in NZ.
After all, investing in energy efficiency makes sound economic sense.
